Cokesbury Hill Farm

Overlooking park-like grounds and pastures, this elegant circa 1860 restored Colonial creates an aura of its own. Carefully expanded with seamless additions, it blends a variety of timeless design elements and sought-after modern features.  A walkway leads to the covered veranda which takes in scenic views of the well-tended grounds and gardens. Specimen plantings provide a sequence of color throughout the seasons.  The picture book pastoral beauty of Cokesbury Hill Farm surrounds you the moment you arrive. Encased in stone, this once-clapboard residence tells a story. Long ago it was purchased by a couple of means. The wife desired a stone house, so her spouse promptly encased the exterior in fieldstone.

Dependencies include an updated two-bedroom cottage with a fully-equipped kitchen, a two-story red barn for garaging, an attached chicken house and fenced chicken yard, a grain/garden shed plus a run-in shelter within the three acres of fenced pastures. A beautiful in-ground swimming pool offers lounging areas and a separate building for changing and housing mechanicals along with a solar heating system.  There is a 1,500 square-foot fenced garden containing perennials, asparagus and strawberry beds as well as blueberry, raspberry and blackberry bushes.

Interior highlights include original millwork, beamed ceilings and three wood-burning fireplaces. A hallmark of the floor plan is a large living room with fieldstone fireplace flanked by lighted shelves over handsome cabinets. A wood beam ceiling and original front door add to the warmth. A hand-painted mural of Cokesbury scenes lends character to the dining room with its original mantelpiece.  The updated powder room includes a custom wood vanity and designer fixtures.

The newer portion of the home offers an informal dining area linking the updated cook’s kitchen to the family room with cathedral ceiling, fireplace, built-in bookshelves and cabinetry. French doors connect this space to the elegant bluestone patio edged by a stone knee wall, the perfect spot for summer dining. The kitchen features a large granite-topped center island,  a Viking dual-fuel range along with a second Viking oven. The addition of a light-filled mud room/laundry room off the kitchen provides a wine cooler and ample storage. This versatile room functions as a butler's pantry for entertaining.

The second floor consists of a spacious master bedroom adjoining a well-appointed master bath with crisp white cabinetry and nooks, a large shower enclosure, chrome designer fixtures and wonderful lighting. A small balcony and separate dressing area with sink and built-in drawers complete the sunny master retreat. Three additional bedrooms and another updated full bath complete this level.

Updates include Marvin windows, Pella doors, a 20 kW Generac generator, two units of central air conditioning and a 19.62 kW SunPower solar photovoltaic system that generates enough electricity over the course of the year for the entire property.

Clinton Township is known for its fine schools and athletic facilities. The beautiful river town of Clinton is host to cultural activities, an art museum, historic sites, canoeing, fishing and fine shopping. Nearby Interstate 78 offers access to Newark Liberty International Airport and New York City.

Clinton, NJ real estate market

Located amid the gently rolling hills of Hunterdon County along the South Branch of the Raritan River, Clinton Township encompasses 39-square-miles which encircle Lebanon Borough and border High Bridge and the townships of Franklin, Union, Lebanon, Tewksbury, Readington and Raritan. The township includes the rural hamlets of Annandale, Allerton, Readingsburg and part of Cokesbury.

Clinton's charming Victorian-era village attracts visitors and locals with its historic shopping area, flowering cherry tree-lined streets and scenic river and waterfall views. The antique truss bridge constructed in 1870 crosses the South Branch of the Raritan River and overlooks a 200-foot wide waterfall separating two old grist mills: Clinton's landmark Red Mill, home of the Hunterdon Historical Museum, and the Stone Mill, which houses the Hunterdon Museum of Art.

Often described as a quintessential American small town, Clinton has drawn the attention of Hollywood stars and movie producers over the years. Scenes from In and Out with Kevin Kline, One True Thing with Renée Zellweger and Meryl Streep, My Giant with Billy Crystal and Turbulence with Ray Liotta have all been shot in Clinton.
