“La Colline du Levant”

A masterly planned estate on 14.5 bucolic acres known as “La Colline du Levant” exhibits exquisite interior elegance behind a handsome classic stone and wood exterior of timeless appeal positioned atop an old orchard farm hilltop.   Named for the breathtaking sunrises, sweeping views overlook a pond and antique spring house circa 1800s next to a whispering stream.

It is rare to find a newer home which reflects a sense of the past found in vintage European mansions and yet has a youthful appeal.  It is surrounded by architectural landscaped gardens with classic stone wall hardscapes artfully arranged to maximize the beauty of the setting. French doors throughout the first floor facilitate an indoor-outdoor living experience. A screened three-season room connects the great room to a manicured outdoor entertaining space. Outbuildings include the spring house, a storage building and the pool house. There is a Par 3 golf course with 6 tee boxes and 3 bunkers.

The light-filled interior features a grand two-story entry hall with a sweeping staircase. Hallmarks of the home include fine millwork, elaborate moldings throughout the first and second floors, and coffered ceilings in the living and dining rooms. There are also two fireplaces – an elegant woodburning fireplace with a convenient gas insert in the living room and a handsome wood-burning fireplace in the great room. Soaring ceilings and cozy nooks interplay to give the floor plan a sense of surprise.

A stunning, richly-hued custom kitchen provides every current amenity and comfort a chef could ask for, and has a dining area looking out on the gardens and bluestone patios.  Conveniently, there are study/offices on each floor, front and side staircases, two updated half baths on the first floor, and on the second floor a sophisticated master suite with fireplace and sitting room. The spacious laundry room is also located on the second floor.

Modern features include a home audio/entertainment system with indoor and outdoor speakers, an irrigation system, a standby home generator, and a par 3 synthetic golf course which adds a new dimension to the land.

Recent upgrades were made to create a warm contemporary designer style, including total interior painting, a French Versailles pattern marble tile in the kitchen, and refinished stained hardwood floors throughout the house with an exquisite new herringbone floor in the dining room. The new black and white checkered marble floor with exquisite millwork in the back hallway leads you to a back staircase and an oversized garage. Other upgrades include new carpeting throughout the bedrooms, a new pool heater and outdoor spa.

The rear property line overlooks 175 acres of rolling farmland. The rear white fenced gardens hold grand entertaining spaces including a naturally shaded dining area next to a spa with easy access to the kitchen and outdoor grill. There is an additional seating area under the pergola near the three-season screened porch.  A picturesque walkway leads to the gated pool complex with a large gunite salt-water heated pool and a third pergola.  The pool house provides a sheltered outdoor room with a fridge as well as storage for pool furniture and a separate audio/video system.

Located conveniently in the easternmost portion of Clinton Township near major transportation corridors, the home is a few miles from I-78 and the bustling Route 22 corridor for shopping. The river town of Clinton offers a scenic downtown, the historic Hunterdon Arts Center, fine restaurants and canoeing. Ken Lockwood Gorge with world class trout fishing is nearby, as is the Columbia Trail for walking and biking. Clinton Township also boasts nationally-recognized Blue Ribbon schools including the highly-ranked North Hunterdon High School.

Clinton Township, NJ real estate market

Located amid the gently rolling hills of Hunterdon County along the South Branch of the Raritan River, Clinton Township encompasses 39-square-miles which encircle Lebanon Borough and border High Bridge and the townships of Franklin, Union, Lebanon, Tewksbury, Readington and Raritan. The township includes the rural hamlets of Annandale, Allerton, Readingsburg and part of Cokesbury.

Clinton's charming Victorian-era village attracts visitors and locals with its historic shopping area, flowering cherry tree-lined streets and scenic river and waterfall views. The antique truss bridge constructed in 1870 crosses the South Branch of the Raritan River and overlooks a 200-foot wide waterfall separating two old grist mills: Clinton's landmark Red Mill, home of the Hunterdon Historical Museum, and the Stone Mill, which houses the Hunterdon Museum of Art.

Often described as a quintessential American small town, Clinton has drawn the attention of Hollywood stars and movie producers over the years. Scenes from In and Out with Kevin Kline, One True Thing with Renée Zellweger and Meryl Streep, My Giant with Billy Crystal and Turbulence with Ray Liotta have all been shot in Clinton.
